What should make up a good writer's time?

I'm trying to find a balance between writing and studying. My natural instinct is to write or at least attempt and put studying off for later. My problem now is that I have not been studying and that's not a good thing. What should make up a good writer's time? What's the ratio of time spend reading, studying and writing?

I'm off to my forums to find an answer. I'll be back to share the results.

Hi Joy:
On what's the ratio of studying to writing -- this varies throughout a career. I think every writer should spend time reading or if you don't have much time listen to books on tape. I try to read a book a week. I don't do many writer's exercises but try to take at least one writing course a year to improve my skills. I try to read an article online or in a magazine about some writing topic every week or I reread a chapter in one of my many grammar books. I also have daily writing goals. Currently I think a fair assement would put about 10 % of my writing business time to continuing education. Hope this helps. MollyMom
